Insurgency Mod
A half-life 2 mod | Posted by Brent on Aug 02nd 05 08:35 PM
Insurgency is a modern infantry combat mod for Valve's Half-Life 2.

You get to play both sides of the combat, the unexperienced conventional fighters, or a well rounded force such as the US. INS (Insurgency) is going to do it's best to become a modern combat simulator at both individual and tactical levels. There will be an online progress system  that enables you to take control of the teams (indirectly of course) and even the entire platoon if you are good enough.

From the Insurgency Website:
:: Source Technology -- The physics, Artificial Intelligence, and enhanced graphics make Half-Life 2 the best choice of game engine for Insurgency in order to create a more realistic, detailed, and interactive online combat environment.

:: 4 Teams -- The first release of INS will feature 4 unique teams: U.S. Marines, British Parachute Regt., Paramilitary, and Guerrillas.

:: 4 Game Modes:

Firefight -- Designed for up to 16 players. This is a duel between a Fireteam vs. Fireteam or a Squad vs. Squad. They must advance through the map and take the subsequent objectives. Reinforcement comes further back which could hinder an advance. Once a team has taken all objectives or eliminated the opposing team, they are victorious. The players then swap sides to prove is the best all around.

Battle -- Designed for up to 64 players. Both teams clash as they struggle to control all the objectives. Depending on how well the team performs, the battle could easily put you on the defensive or if you execute your strategy and tactics well, you will be on the offensive to close with and destroy the enemy. In order to earn victory, you must control all objectives or eliminate the enemy once they have no more reinforcements available.

Push -- Designed for up to 64 players. One team is on the offensive and the other must put up a stalwart effort in order to hold their ground. The objectives are layed out so that one at a time must be captured. Once that objective has been taken, the attacking team then continues on to the subsequent objectives until all have been taken or run out of troops and reinforcements.

Strike -- Designed for up to 64 players. Another attack and defend scenario where objectives are layed out with no place for the defenders to withdraw and regroup. They must hold the objective as until either team can no longer put up a fight.

:: Dynamic Squad Structure -- Teams are organized into Squads/Sections forming a Platoon in order to enhance and encourage teamwork among the players. These Squads can be configured in any way with any player class. These will be server-side and any configuration can be applied to any map creating a number of different scenarios for each map. Ideal for balancing in matches or leagues.

:: Chain of Command System -- Rise through the ranks and adopt leadership positions as your in game experience enhances your chances to lead your team to victory or adopt more specialised roles within the team.

:: Dynamic Map Configuration System -- This feature allows server-sided changes to the configuration of maps. There is the ability to change what teams are fighting, which uniforms, reinforcement numbers, fire support available, squad configuration, among other properties.

:: Command Mode -- As a Fireteam, Squad/Section, or Platoon Commander, you will have the ability to quickly issue orders with either an interactive map of the battlefield or on the fly through the HUD.

:: Vehicles -- Take control of a Humvee, Land Rover, or Technical. Light vehicles will have the ability to be player controlled to enhance mobility and provide additional fire support. Other heavier and more important vehicles and aircraft will be controlled by AI in order to support the grunts in the field.

:: Realistic Weapon Behaviours -- Use your weapon's sights to accurately aim. Rounds will land where you aim and players will behave realistically to any kind of wound. Weapons and bullets will act like they should, however, they will not hinder the gameplay with any negative affect to the player (i.e. there will not be weapon jamming).

:: Communication System -- Specialized roles will be equipped with radios in order to communicate with other important figures on the battlefield. This communications advantage enhances teamwork and allows for improved co-operation and co-ordination.

:: No Bullshit Heads Up Display (NOBSHUD) -- Only the information that you need to know will be displayed when you need to know it. You will know where your objectives and where your leaders are at all times. No flashy graphics or other distractions to take your attention away from the action at hand.

:: Realistic Gameplay -- Perform tasks that the infantry would. Close with and destroy the enemy. Capture and hold ground that will require firepower, your friends, and courage that is found in an Infantry soldier. Once you become an online combat veteran, you can rise through the ranks and lead your Squad or Section or your entire Platoon (team) to victory using proven tactics, teamwork, and leadership.

:: Reinforcement System -- Once the shit hits the fan and you are in the action, you will be fighting it out until the reinforcements arrive. These reinforcements will come by waves at the discretion of the Platoon Commander, however, they may not be ready for several crucial minutes.

:: Point System -- Players are awarded for their merit and dedication to the team. Assisting to secure and defend objectives along with demonstrating leadership under fire will allow for those deserving to gain promotion and introduced more specialized roles as well as leadership positions.
